During a visit to the Nursery a few weeks ago, my attention was caught by a new plant that they showed me and have recently started to cultivate, but which is already available in various formats.
This new plant is _Euphorbia "Diamond Frost"_, which is a well-known cultivar with a certain track record of use in other countries, and which we can find among other places in the High Line in New York, but despite being especially suitable for cultivation in our latitudes, until now it has not been widely used or known.
This Euphorbia is a perennial herbaceous plant, from warm climates, very resistant to high temperatures and lack of water. It has a ground-covering behavior and in full development reaches a height of about 20 cm and about 30 cm in width.
Flowering begins in mid-spring and ends towards the end of autumn with the arrival of the first cold weather. Its flowers are small and unique, although due to their small size they are not striking, but on the other hand the flowering is extremely profuse and very showy. The flowers are white in color, as are the unique bracts that accompany them.
The foliage is attractive, but during flowering, if the plant grows in good conditions, it is practically hidden under the mantle formed by the countless small white flowers.
It needs well-drained soils with a certain fertility. It is a simple plant to cultivate and with low maintenance requirements. It likes to grow in full sun, although it can also be in partial shade, but this location will not have a positive impact on its flowering.
Its resistance to frost is low, it does not tolerate temperatures below 0ºC, this characteristic means that in cold climates it is normal to cultivate it either as an annual or in a container and when the first autumn frosts arrive it can be brought inside the house, in a well-lit place and there it will continue its flowering.
If you want to maintain a very specific size, you can prune the stems in spring, when temperatures begin to rise. But, under normal conditions, it is not necessary, nor is it necessary to remove the dry flowers and bracts, since they do not persist for a long time on the plant.
It is resistant to pests and diseases if grown in the correct conditions, since soils with excessive moisture or poor drainage can cause root rot. Therefore, it is advisable to wait until the soil is completely dry before watering again, as well as ensuring good drainage of the planting area.
Due to its characteristics, it is a very versatile plant in the garden, it can be used as a ground cover plant, as a border in flower beds or in rock gardens. It can be grown in pots or in hanging baskets and is also suitable as a houseplant.
It should be mentioned that the latex, characteristic of this genus, which originates from cuts or wounds, is toxic and can be irritating in contact with the skin, so it is advisable to wear gloves when handling it.
